Mushroom Hunting

This text will report a little bit of our adventure in hunting for mushrooms, on June 4, 2016.
We arrived at the place at 9:45 am, In the morning, we had a brief explanation from Georgia, she explained what would happen, we were going to split into three groups, one led by her, another by Elaine and the last by Professor Paulo Machado. So we started the hunt for mushrooms, the groups spreaded out and began searching, we always checked in the book if the mushroom we encountered was poisonous or not. Along the way we found a lot of animals like turtles, bees, butterfly, spiders and lizards. So it lunch time, we went to the festival of mushrooms to deliver the mushrooms collected for the exhibition. Finally we watched someone cooking a recipe with mushrooms, which we later tasted.

Voluntary work

In the 2nd of June of 2016 we started our volunteer work at 18h00 and ended around 20h00. The volunteer work counted with the participation of the following:

Cheila, Rafael, Ivan, Diogo, Miguel, Guilherme, Rui, Hugo, André, Daniel, Tiago and Georgia.

Landscape printing

For the printing of landscape we choose to take some pictures and after that we transformed them to lithophane, that way, we can have a 3-dimentional relief.
There were no difficulties with the transformation of the pictures, we only had to search for the best program to do it.
After some research we choose to use the program "lithophanes".
Right after the transformation, we edited it and inserted our logo and some words in Braille saying the name of the project and the name of the landscape so the blind people can read it.

We can conclude that this part of our project was the most simple one and we finished it, with the 3D printing, in 3-4 days.
Integrating this Erasmus project we thought that it would be much easier, but with the progress of the project we started to realize that it wasn't like we thought because some problems occurred.

One of those problems was right from the beginning when we tried to take some pictures, where we had some difficulties, because there were a lot of trees and plants around the bridge and that caused some shadows.

Our 2º problem occurred when we start making the 3D model: it had some difficulties (holes, lack of overlapped images, some overexposed and underexposed images).

Upon that and after we debated how we could solve those problems we came to a conclusion:

Try to improve the pictures (e.g. by chancing the contrast) and take new ones in order to fill the existed holes.

Yesterday we analised a few bridges to see wich one was ideal for our 3D project. After analising a few, we found the ideal one for the making of our 3D mold.
We had to take a few pictures of the bridge to the project and we had 2 great contributors from Portugal that made us 2 huge and excellent sketches of the bridge, and these were the results!

With this blog, not only we want to let you know about our Erasmus project, but we also want to show some problems that we had with it.

We are 11 students of a public portuguese high school
(Escola Secundária de Alcochete)

For our Erasmus project it was proposed to us to make a 3D model of a bridge and a landscape of Zagori, for the people that have difficulties of vision (in this case mostly blind people) so they can touch in order to see what is in front of them.
..and so our group name "Touch to See" was born.
